Kelso

Kelso's Choice Wheel is a tool primary teachers use to teach simple options for students to use to problem solve with their peers.  Kelso is a frog that teaches first graders they can solve "small" problems on their own. Small problems include conflicts that cause "small" feelings of annoyance, embarrassment, boredom, etc. "BIG" problems always need to go to an adult. These are situations that are scary or dangerous.
Kelso has 9 choices to solve small problems. These are on the KELSO wheel;

-Go to another game
-Talk it out
-Share and take turns
-Ignore it
-Walk away
-Apologize
-Make a deal
-Wait and cool off

When a child comes to staff to solve their "small problem, we help them try one of the KELSO choices first. If that doesn't work, then an adult can/will intervene. Making sure kids know how to tell the adult they have a "BIG" problem is also part of the learning process.
