Geometry

Room 4 started a geometry unit today in iReady math. We explored sides, corners (angles), and how the shapes fit inside each other = congruence. What a great day in first grade math. We will continue to add and subtract ones and tens while learning all about geometry.

Jog-A-Thon 2018!

Room 4 celebrated today! We had a wonderful time at our annual fundraiser. First graders got to run for an audience, sip water, and munch on popcicles. What could be better? We hope our families enjoyed the day as well. Thank you for coming out and cheering us on!

STEM: Air Pressure

First graders have been building parachutes and testing their ability to "float" using air. Mr. Mark our librarian has been supporting our STEM exploration for a few weeks. Today room 4 had several successful launches! Great job room 4!

Weekly Counselor Visit

Ridgeview has a part-time counselor this year. Ms. Robyn Eiks is very qualified. Her experiences have given her an in-depth pool of community resources available to our students and families. We are so happy when she visits. She tells us stories that solve problems, and build character.

SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES!!!

Today SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES are in your child's backpack. Please look through the various pamphlets and schedules. There are academic, daycare, and educational opportunities and activities.
ALSO, please help you child clean his/her backpack daily. We will be sending home things periodically as we wind our year down. We are losing a lot of sweaters and jackets. This time of year you may choose to leave "extras" at home. Our first graders don't go outside until 10:00. It is not as chilly by recess.

Happy Mother's Day 2018!

Some flowers, a little grass, a bean and a bug!
We hope your Mother's Day surprise
brought a smile and a
HUG!

Collections!

Room 4 is starting a new writing unit. We are writing "opinions". This week we will continue sharing collections. Each first grader tells why they collect their treasures, which one they like best, and if they are going to collect more. We are going to give "Blue Ribbons" to our favorite collections.

Plants, Plants, Plants!

We are starting to send home our beans tonight, and we will send grasses and flowers tomorrow. They are growing rapidly. You may transplant them when you get them home. Any container will do. Enjoy these lovely green beauties!

I Am A Lucky Teacher!

Thank you Room 4 parents for the well wishes and super duper signs! I go home every night and think, "I am the luckiest teacher, so many great kids, and sweet, sweet parents." Thank you from the bottom of my heart. We make a great team.

Springfield Gift of Literacy

We were honored to attend the Springfield Gift of Literacy today. Our community is so generous. EVERY first grader in Springfield received the book they picked as their "favorite". The program made nameplates for the front of each book, packed the backpacks and planned the program. We were treated to a play, our gift books and bags, a "storyteller", and a free lunch. The book characters and high school mascots were a hit.
