Good Fit Books

Good Fit books are books your child really wants to take home to read. They will begin coming later this fall.  They have their own envelope, and are chosen by your child. For this reason, please be prepared to step-in and read aloud with, or to your child. Remember our Information Night video, "How to Read to Your Child"?

Early readers are "emerging". Pre-emergent, and emergent readers must be read to for them to become readers for life. First grade teachers pick-up where kindergarten left off, filling gaps in letter names, letter sounds, phonological awareness, and phonemic awareness. As these holes are filled first graders become readers. Students who come to first grade reading are working on phonemic strategies as well as word reading, high frequency words, vocabulary, increased fluency, and comprehension.
