iReady in Room 4

Room 4 uses iPads daily. They are used every morning for HMH vocabulary readers and leveled readers, and every afternoon for iReady Math differentiated lessons. The math lesson is at their correct level of difficulty. They must pass to go on to the next objective.

Bats and Skunks

Room 4 studied 2 mammals. Bats and skunks are the same, but different! Bats fly, skunks creep, but both mammals are nocturnal. Bats keep the insect population down. Farmers love them. Skunks live a short life, eating worms and grubs, waddling through thick underbrush. They really hurt no one, unless...  they are threatened! ask your child to hare how a skunk warns a predator before they spray!

A Reading Tip: Inferences

Parents, kids today spend a significant time in front of a screen. Here is a great way to support reading while watching with your child!
"Making inferences is especially hard when reading fiction because authors don’t always write how a character feels. They simply write what’s happening. Readers need to think like the character and understand the plot to guess what the character thinks and feels.
To make an inference, a student must make a logical connection between two or more ideas in a text. She needs to “read between the lines.” And research shows if a student can make inferences with pictures, comics or videos, she can make them with words.
So here’s a tip. Use an animated video to help your child develop these skills."
