Chicken or a Duck?
Room 4 read, "The Surprise Family" this week in reading. It is a very funny story about a pet chicken who wants to lay eggs. Her owner sneaks eggs into her nest. When they hatch they are ducks!
We are writing opinions in writing. Our class wrote which one would they rather have for a pet, a chicken, or a duck? Ask your child about their favorite choice, and why!

Ridgeview Jog-a-Thon May 19th
Room 4 first graders will run on May 19th. Jog-a-thon is a fun day for every student at Ridgeview. Volunteers support our kids by passing out water bottles, popcicles, or marking each runner's lap card as they run around the track. All parents are welcome to run, walk, watch, or volunteer to help. Ask in the office if you would like to set-up the track, or help put away tables, chairs, etc. when the event is over. The exact time room 4 is running will be sent home next week. GO SKYHAWKS!
Reading for Fluency Progress!
Room 4 is making good progress in our challenge to read 10 minutes every day! REMEMBER, 20 ice cream scoops returned will equal a pass to our first grade ice cream party! I am sending home 6 more scoops in our Monday homework folder. REMEMBER, sign, and write your child's name on each scoop! Happy reading!
Plants Sprout!
Our beans, grass, and barley sprouted in record time! Our grass took a week, and our beans between 7 and 10 days. Soaking our bean seeds for 24 hours made them sprout faster. We took home our recording sheet and cup of greenery to share with our families!
