Magic Carpet Spots
Every student has a magic carpet spot in room 4. Students have a spot they can go to fast, this eliminates wasted time during instruction. I change the spots as needed. In addition, some students have rocker chairs, rocking chairs, or furry fidgets. These are rotated often so all students have an opportunity to use them.
Bats, Bats, Bats!
Room 4 is learning all about bats! Farmer Lynn told us bats eat the very bad insects that hurt her crops. She shares her barns and sheds with lots of bats! We have been reading about, watching short videos, and writing what we have learned about bats.
Real Writer's Use Word Walls
Room 4 writer's use our word wall to help them spell words in their daily writing. Each day we have a variety of opportunities to write in our 100 Days of Writing journals, or write in our 3 page packets. We have Red Writing Folders to park work in progress. Writers use the Writer's Museum wall to hang favorite, or best work in progress!

ABC Order
First graders are learning how to use/try one letter of the alphabet at a time to create new words. We call this "abc order". We practice each week with a new vowel sound to create words all by ourselves.
SPIDERS!
Room 4 is learning all about spiders! Our field trip to Northern Lights Christmas Tree Farm included a lesson on spiders, bats, and owls. Farmer Lynn shared why we should NEVER kill a spider, we should take a piece of paper and carry it outside. Farmers NEED spiders! They eat the bugs that ruin their crops. Farmer Lynn and Farmer Bob LOVE spiders.
We got a clipboard today! It has my number on it! I can use a clipboard for any writing on the carpet.
I have 6 TRUE facts attached to my spider.

Northern Lights Christmas Tree Farm
Today our class took a trip to the Northern lights Tree Farm in Pleasant Hill. The BIGGEST crop on the farm is Christmas trees! The trees get cut down and shipped all over! Farmer Bob and Farmer Lynn also raise cattle, goats, pigs, spiders, bats, owls, chickens, pumpkins, gourds, corn, hay, and turkeys! They sell the meat, eggs, and trees all year long. Ask me what my favorite 3 things are!
