Gift of Literacy!

New Groups Above, or New Groups Below!
In math we have started adding 2 digit numbers with "carrying". When I was in school that is what we called it when you added 2 numbers, and the answer was larger than 9. Note the photos that illustrate how we are working through the math problems. Each child decides whether he, or she wants to put the "10" on top of the 10's, or "under the 10's, hence the terms "above" and "below". It is the same math we did as children, just new terminology for moving the 10!

Chicken or a Duck?
Room 4 read, "The Surprise Family" this week in reading. It is a very funny story about a pet chicken who wants to lay eggs. Her owner sneaks eggs into her nest. When they hatch they are ducks!
We are writing opinions in writing. Our class wrote which one would they rather have for a pet, a chicken, or a duck? Ask your child about their favorite choice, and why!
